Boasting one million Android downloads, Google has revealed its app store victory over iStore’s current count of approximately 900,000.
Hugo Barra, vice president of Android product development, made the statistics available yesterday (Monday), revealing Google’s next move of making a tablet app section available for optimised user experience.
Google is also ahead of Apple when it comes to tablet sales, with Android shipments possessing 67 per cent of the market, making iPads rank second.
However, a Symantec report has questioned the quality of Android apps, stating the app selection contains various scams or inappropriate apps.
"Their tactic of abusing the search function on Google Play allows their apps to be easily bumped to the top of keyword searches,”Joji Hamada said in the report.
According to the anti-virus company, a test search showed 21 out of 24 top app hits are malicious.
Symantec noted the growth of malicious app creators.
